art collaboration

THE ARTIST COLLABORATION BETWEEN ANNIE DENTEN AND MYSELF STARTED WHEN THE FEMALE ARTIST CLUB PUT OUT AN INTERNATIONAL OPEN CALL TO INVITE FEMALE IDENTIFYING ARTISTS TO COLLABORATE AND CREATE ART WORK FOR THE EXHIBITION “DIFFERENT STROKES.”

THE SERIES “PHONE LOOKS FIRST” AND THE WORK “HOW DOES THIS MAKE YOU FEEL?” WERE CHOSEN TO BE A PART OF THIS INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION.

phone looks first

THE “PHONE LOOKS FIRST” SERIES AIMS TO QUESTION THE CULTURE OF MASS DIGITAL CONSUMPTION, WHILE CHALLENGING INDIVIDUALS TO QUESTION THEIR OWN REACTIONS AND ROUTINES. THIS SERIES ASKS THE QUESTIONS: WHAT DOES IT MEANS TO SLOW DOWN AND FEEL OUR SENSES IN THIS DIGITAL AGE? WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO LOOK AT SOMETHING AND FEEL IS DEEPLY IN YOUR BONES? WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE PRESENT IN THE MOMENT OF AWE? HOW DOES DIGITAL DOCUMENTATION AND SOCIAL MEDIA SHARING PLAY A ROLE IN OUR LIVES AND WITHIN OUR PERSONAL TOURISM EXPERIENCES? ANNIE AND I INVITE VIEWERS TO ENGAGE WITH THESE PLAYFUL COLLABORATIVE WORKS THROUGH NOT ONLY ASKING THEMSELVES THESE QUESTIONS, BUT SELF REFLECTING ON THE IDEA:

WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN YOUR PHONE LOOKS FIRST?

HOW DOES THIS

MAKE YOU FEEL?

THIS WORK ASKS THE VIEWER TO REFLECT ON A STATE OF HEAVINESS.
